How do you get into a hockey high school?
At hockeygymnasiet.se, you will find 33 national hockey high schools (NIU), 6 of which are for girls, 64 local hockey high schools, and 21 local hockey high schools for girls (LIU & LIP).
January 1 (this year)
- Work begins on autumn admissions to NIU/Elite hockey high schools.
- During the period between January 1 (U15 year) and September 1 (U16 year), NIU hockey high schools may do the following:
- Scouting begins with the current age group.
- The association's NIU representatives watch matches and observe players.
- The association invites you to try-out days and visits.
- The first date for offering a place to the relevant NIU is October 10 of the U16 year.
Sept. 7 (this year)
Applications are now open for students who want to start studying at NIU.
Oct. 10 (this year)
First valid date to submit an early offer for an NIU place.
Dec. 1 (this year)
The deadline for applications to NIU for the fall semester is now December 1.
Jan. 25 (next year)
Final date for notifying students who have applied to NIU.
Jan. 26 (next year)
Last date for students to respond to an offer of a NIU place.

Checklist: Application to Hockey High School (NIU / LIU / LIP)
1. Preparations
- Talk to your current coach about ambitions and recommendations
- Ensure that your grades are sufficient for high school eligibility
- Decide whether you want to apply for NIU, LIU, or LIP
- Make a list of schools you are interested in
- Read up on each school's structure and requirements
- Prepare a brief presentation about yourself.
2. Application to NIU
- Go to https://gymnasieansokan.swehockey.se/
- Create an account and log in
- Fill in personal details, hockey background, and achievements
- Select which NIU schools you want to apply to
- Submit your application by December 1 at the latest.
3. Selection for NIU
- Read the notice carefully
- Practice extra skating, technique, and fitness
- Prepare for the interview
- Pack all equipment + extra tape and snacks
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and work ethic
4. Application to LIU
- Check the school's website for the application process.
- Fill in local form
- Write a short presentation about yourself
- Prepare for a possible interview
5. Application to LIP
- Check whether the school offers LIP
- Read up on the setup
- Indicate interest in high school choice
- Contact the person responsible if you have any questions

Admission process NIU Hockey High School

Step 1Register your interest by December 1 on the SIF website. Maximum of 4 different options.

Step 2Calculate your merit points to find the right upper secondary school program.

Step 3After registering your interest, you will be notified of your admission to the sports program by January 25 at the latest.

Step 4High school selection: applications for program selection must be submitted between January 9 and February 15.
Admission process LIU and LIP Hockey High School

Step 1Register your interest with LIU/LIP before February 1. You apply for upper secondary school programs through the Upper Secondary School Admissions System.

Step 2Once the application period has closed, an initial preliminary admission will be made.

Step 3You must be eligible, which means having approved grades in the required subjects.

Step 4In these cases, you will only be notified of your admission at the final admission stage.
