The Luleå Hockey High School has a long-standing tradition of developing young male players into elite senior-level players. Good examples of this are Linus Omark, Johan Harju and Anders Nilsson, who have all made their mark in the SHL and gone on to play in the NHL. Then there are Isac Lundeström and Nils Lundkvist, who were drafted in the first round in the summer of 2018 and have a bright future ahead of them. In Luleå, up to 14 players can be admitted each year to the Elite Ice Hockey Sixth Form College, which is run by Luleå Gymnasieskola in collaboration with Luleå Hockey. Pupils admitted through this route are given the opportunity to both play and train with Luleå Hockey or another club, to the extent and at the level that best supports their development as ice hockey players.

For NIU, an athletic selection process is required in addition to the standard application to an upper secondary programme. As a sports student, you will be enrolled in a ”sports class” within the Business Programme, the Natural Sciences Programme or the Social Sciences Programme.

If you are accepted onto the NIU programme, you can choose to study the Childcare and Leisure Programme, the Business Programme, the Natural Sciences Programme or the Social Sciences Programme.

If you are accepted onto the National Basketball Sixth Form Programme, you are entitled to apply for any of the programmes offered by Luleå Upper Secondary School; however, your best chance of securing a timetable that accommodates your sporting commitments is within the four programmes relevant to NIU, as these are specifically designed to combine sport with studies.

As a student at LIU, you will study 200 credits in your chosen sport, through two courses under the ‘individual choice’ option. You can apply for local sports education via the four programmes: BF, EK, NA and SA.

Unlike the NIU or RIG programmes, there is no sports-based selection process for the LIU; instead, you simply apply for one of the above programmes via the 4-kantens upper secondary school application system, where you are assessed on the basis of your school grades.
However, we at the school would like those of you who are interested in an LIU course to register your interest using the form below, so that we can gauge the level of interest and plan as effectively as possible.

Applications to Linköping Elite Sports Upper Secondary School are made in two stages. Firstly, during the autumn, you must apply for a sport via the relevant national sports federation and be accepted; secondly, you must apply for an upper secondary programme (during the period January–February or during the re-application period April–May). Please note: You must have been accepted onto a sport for your application to a programme at the Elite Sports Upper Secondary School to be valid.
