The Hockey Upper Secondary School in Piteå offers you the opportunity to combine your upper secondary programme with hockey training in an elite environment. Applications to our local hockey sixth-form college can be submitted up until the closing date for applications to Strömbackaskolan in February. Piteå is a recognised and successful sporting town, particularly when it comes to ice hockey. World Championship, Olympic and Stanley Cup medallists such as Tomas Holmström, Mattias Öhlund, Stefan Persson, Mikael Renberg and Lasse Lindgren have all emerged as major stars through Piteå. Piteå is known for its welcoming atmosphere and close-knit community.

If you’re interested in practising your sport as part of the individual choice programme in upper secondary school, Local Sports Education (LIU) might be for you. You apply to LIU/LIP as early as Year 9. This is done as part of the same application you submit to the upper secondary school. If there are a large number of applicants, places will be allocated by lottery. For pupils on the LIU/LIP programme, the ‘individual choice’ programme begins in Year 1 and continues throughout all three years.
