Q: How old do I have to be to become a hockey referee?
A: There is no minimum age. However, we recommend that you are at least 12 years old to referee full-ice hockey. If you are younger than 12, we recommend that you start by refereeing half-ice hockey.

Q: How old can the players be for me to referee as a youth referee?
A: As a youth referee, you can referee up to U16.
Q: What equipment do I need to start refereeing ice hockey?
A: For a youth referee, all you need is an approved referee shirt, black helmet with visor, black pants, and a whistle.
Q: I am still an active player. Can I referee while I play?
A: There is absolutely no problem with refereeing while you play. However, it is important that you do not referee teams in the same league that you play in. Ask the referee coordinator in your club if you are unsure.
Q: I completed a club referee training course two years ago. Do I have to complete another one to be able to referee next season?
A: As a referee, you must complete training before each season, regardless of the level you have refereed at or how many years you have refereed previously.
